About the organization:
FCCLA stands for Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America and was founded in 1945.
This is an organization for young men and women through grade 12.
Today there are over 175,000 members and 5,300 chapters active in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
FCCLA focuses on a variety of concerns including parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, sustainability, nutrition and fitness, teen violence, and career preparation.
Involvement in FCCLA can help students develop useful life skills that are necessary in the home and workplace.
The FCCLA motto is "Toward New Horizons".
Mission: To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
Purposes:
To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.
To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.
To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.
To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.
To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.
